What to use instead of lubricant (and what – better not)?

If you tend to use a lubricant and it has run out at a particularly important time, there are some DIY options. However, not so fast. The best lubricants are water or silicone-based and do not contain chemical fragrances, dyes, or other potential irritants. The problem is that if you choose a supposedly good alternative to a lubricant, there is a possibility that it will be an oil-based product that may contain ingredients that are not very friendly to the female genitals.

COMPLETELY SAFE ALTERNATIVES THAT CAN BE USED INSTEAD OF A LUBRICANT

Aloe

Aloe instead of lubricant

No wonder many commercially available lubricants contain aloe vera, known as a natural remedy for skin irritations, especially after sunburn. Due to its slipperiness and natural moisturizing properties, aloe vera is a great lubricant for traditional or anal sex. It will not harm condoms either. Be sure to use 100% aloe vera or aloe vera specifically designed for such use. And of course, if you have allergies, this slippery, fun plant won’t be your best friend.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil instead of lubricant

Oh, coconut oil: a modern, miracle cure that seems to help everything. The best feature? It can be used as a lubricant. It has a pleasant smell, so it can also be used as an oil for erotic massage. However, there is one downside – coconut oil can reduce the effectiveness of latex condoms. If you have coconut oil, use non-latex condoms.

A real lubricant

However, it must be acknowledged that the best lubricant is one that is truly designed for use during sex and does not irritate sensitive skin down there. Depending on why you are using a lubricant (such as dryness or trying to have anal sex), it is always a good idea to find one – based on water, oil, or silicone – that will not interfere with having a good time.

SUBSTANCES THAT SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT BE USED AS A LUBRICANT

Whipped cream

Whipped cream should not be used instead of lubricant

The 1999 film ‘ Varsity Blues’ made whipped cream underwear a special bedroom fantasy. But while whipped cream is delicious, it poses a serious risk when it gets inside the vagina. Any product that contains sugar can destroy the pH balance of the vagina and cause irritation. This item also includes other dishes used in desserts, such as maple syrup, chocolate sauce, and honey.

Various creams

How many times have you not seen a teenage guy use hand cream in a movie or series to masturbate? Such common scenes might suggest that it is a good substitute for lubricant, but in reality, it is not. Even so-called natural lotions can contain dyes and fragrances, not to mention parabens, which, according to various experts, are potential endocrine disruptors.

Olive oil

The use of olive oil is good for the human heart, and when applied to the skin, it can get a special glow. Although this ingredient in meals is great for a variety of massages and foreplay, it is not so good for sexual intercourse. This is because any natural oil can weaken the latex of the condom, as a result of which it no longer protects against pregnancy and STDs.

Vaseline

The ideal lubricant to make things slip during sex – not to become sticky, like Vaseline. It is difficult to wash off and can build up bacteria, causing irritation or infection. One study found that women who use Vaseline as a lubricant more than doubled their risk of developing bacterial vaginosis . As with oil-based products, it can also reduce the effectiveness of latex condoms, which means a higher risk of pregnancy and STDs.

Baby oil

Baby oil instead of lubricant? Although it sounds plausible, this idea is not the best either. A study published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology found a link between the intravaginal use of baby oil and candida infection inside the vagina. In addition, as mentioned above, oil can reduce the effectiveness of latex condoms.

Mineral oils

Minerals and various tanning oils are not specifically designed as lubricants and are actually absorbed by the human body. In this case, mineral oils can make the genitals even drier, which would be the exact opposite effect. In addition, studies published in the journal Contraception have found that latex condoms exposed to mineral oil cause a 90% reduction in condom strength after 60 seconds.

Butter

Butter contains casein proteins from milk, which can coagulate quite quickly. Experiments in the bedroom are a lot of fun, but you may want to keep the rotting animal proteins away from the genitals.
