All over the world, people engage in various strange sex practices related not only to the act itself, but also to creating the mood. We are talking about aphrodisiacs, which, unlike a healthy diet or libido-enhancing foods, are designed to quickly ignite passion. And while such aphrodisiacs are often based on nothing more than ancient lore or outdated medical knowledge, they all have one thing in common – they’re not… very pleasant. In fact, they are repulsive, and we have selected the most interesting ones for you.
Aphrodisiacs – bird’s nests
Birds contribute blood, sweat and tears (and a lot of saliva) to the process of building their nest. And although blood, sweat and tears are only metaphors, there is plenty saliva. Bird’s nest soup, which is enjoyed in some Asian countries, creates an indescribable passion in a person.
This is a relatively expensive pleasure, considering that it is quite difficult to climb after a bird’s nest, which is located at a height of tens of meters.
Amber
The name sounds pretty nice, but do you know what it is? Natural gray amber (ambergris) is a substance obtained from the sperm whale (yes, the words are in that order, not the other way around). It is a substance that is secreted in the sperm whale’s digestive organs, and later ‘escapes’ into the water. So these smelly lumps are washed by the waves of the sea, while over the years they oxidize, harden and acquire the aroma for which perfumers are ready to pay huge money.
Fugu fish
Fugu, or pufferfish, is a favorite in Japan, but it is also one of the most poisonous animals in the world.
We’re pretty sure it’s not due to any specific substance that causes excitement in humans, but rather an adrenaline rush associated with the danger of tasting a poisonous animal. It is so poisonous that it can only be prepared and served by specially trained and licensed chefs.
Rhino horns as aphrodisiacs
When will people realize that many aphrodisiacs are bullshit? Just as poor African elephants are killed for their tusks, so too are rhinoceroses killed for their horns, which are believed to be a powerful aphrodisiac. And since rhinos are an endangered species, hunting them is illegal.
Baboon urine
Yes, baboon urine! If you’re in Zimbabwe and you’ve lost the urge to have sex, some locals may recommend drinking a large glass of beer with baboon urine added to it.
Cobra
In some Asian countries, cobra blood is used as an aphrodisiac. Only a few drops of cobra blood are mixed into the drink. Cobra meat, on the other hand, is considered a delicacy.
Balut
Another Asian “delicacy”. It is a boiled, fertilized duck egg (with all the unhatched duckling). It is believed to work in the same way as Viagra.
