Pelvic surgeon and sex educator Dr. Rena Malik regularly posts informative content on her YouTube channel, with the goal of dispelling myths and misinformation about sexual health and urology-related issues, as well as simply sharing the facts that everyone should know when it comes to a healthy sex life.
In one of these instructional videos, Malik addresses penile curvature and delves into the research on whether curved penis is common.
She notes that in studies in which men self-assess their “thing,” 87 percent of penises were considered straight and 13 percent curved to the side, far more often to the left than to the right.
However, photographs of penises assessed by specialists revealed that curved penis was more common than previously thought: 70 percent of them were straight, 25 percent were curved upwards, and only 5 percent were curved downwards.
“A lot of people have slightly curved penises and it’s not a problem,” says Malik. “Basically, as long as you’re having normal intercourse, as long as you’re able to experience pleasure and your partner is able to experience pleasure, it’s not a problem at all.”
She adds that if the shape of your penis is a problem or if there is a noticeable change, you may have Peyronie’s disease, a condition involving penile curvature that can cause discomfort and pain. In the worst case, it may even be impossible to have sex. If this is the case, you should definitely consult a doctor.
