Autosexual is a sexual orientation when a person feels sexual desire only towards himself or herself. Some autosexuals feel atracted only to themselves; others, both to themselves and to others, and only a third are sometimes interested in another person.
Sometimes it is believed that autosexual person is unable to love and care for other people. However, this is not true – many autosexual people have romantic and sexual relationships with other people. It just means that their most intense romantic feelings are reserved for themselves.
Signs that you may be autosexual:
1. You prefer masturbation over sex
An autosexual person may not say ‘no’ to having sex, but deep down they will know that solo sessions provide the strongest orgasms and the deepest satisfaction. If your body’s arousal from masturbation is much more intense than the stimulation that results from your partner, chances are you’re autosexual.
2. During sex, you fantasize about yourself
You can’t reach orgasm or simply get aroused unless you imagine and fantasize about yourself.
3. When you masturbate, instead of watching porn, you fantasize about yourself
The main role in your masturbation fantasies is always given to you. You focus on the thoughts of your body, smell or mind.
4. Rather than dating you prefer masturbation and quality time with yourself
Even if you are offered the opportunity to go on a date, you are more tempted to spend the night with yourself in the bath or between sheets.
5. You have erotic dreams about yourself
While we often show up in our own sex dreams, it’s most common that at least one other person is present. If you have persistent erotic dreams that feature only yourself, this could be an indicator that you’re autosexual.
6. You like to have sex in front of a mirror
If you look in the mirror during sexual intercourse with another person and your reflection is causing you to get aroused (as opposed to your partner’s naked body), consider being autosexual.
Is autosexuality narcissism?
It is sometimes said that seeing oneself as an object of sexual attraction is like narcissism. But autosexuality and narcissism are not synonymous. Autosexuality is a sexual orientation, and narcissism is a personality disorder with a lack of empathy. Narcissistic person tends to monopolize conversations, re-evaluate their achievements, use others. It is difficult for them to regulate their emotions. However, autosexual people do not have these qualities.
