Summer is fast approaching and so are the holidays. Many couples choose to travel to exotic countries, Europe is often replaced by the continents of Asia and Africa. However, not everyone knows that in some countries there are rules – if you don’t follow them, your romantic expressions can end with a fine, talking to the police or local residents.
Let’s see in which countries and cities tourists should be more careful.
Travel experts say unmarried couples are at greatest risk. Many probably remember the recent scandal in the family of the legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, when after signing a contract with the Saudi Arabian football team “Al-Nassr”, many questions arose about his life with his fiancee Georgina Rodriguez. In the end, the unmarried couple was allowed to live with their children in the same house, saying that such strict laws against unmarried couples no longer apply in Saudi Arabia. But travel news portals report that cohabitation before marriage is strictly regulated by Indonesian law: those who take the risk face up to a year in prison.

Rules restricting passion also apply in other countries where the majority of the population is made up of citizens who profess Islam. Sex outside of marriage is banned in Qatar, Malaysia and Pakistan. Although the laws are generally stricter for permanent residents than for tourists, the risk of being penalized remains. In addition, it is important to emphasize that not all prohibitions are imposed by law: since the Islamic countries of the East tend to have more conservative views on the population than in the West, women’s more revealing clothing is often viewed negatively.
Stricter rules are also observed in countries where the majority is made up of representatives of other religions. When staying in Singapore hotels facing the street or other public space, it is better not to show yourself naked (underwear or bikini) by the window – showing your body in private but publicly visible places in Singapore is treated as a violation of public decency and order. In Japan, pornographic films and pictures of naked people are still quite taboo.
Although romantic expressions is allowed almost freely in Europe, some countries have slightly different prohibitions regarding sexual or romantic entertainment. For example, strip clubs are prohibited in Iceland, high heels are prohibited in historical places in Greece. Ten years ago, a ban on kissing in public transport came into force in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
