When recording the album “Appetite for Destruction”, Guns N ‘Roses leader Axl Rose (Axl Rose) was not happy with the song “Rocket Queen” then the current version. He lacked what the artist had long dreamed of using in the song, but could not find a person to help make it happen. Until Adrian Smith arrived at the band’s recording studio in New York.
Adrian Smith, then 19, worked at a strip club at the time and pursued a career as an actress. The day before, her relationship with Steven Adler, the drummer of Guns N ‘Roses, had broken up. The girl was angry and craving revenge, while Axel had the opportunity to fulfill an ancient wish.
He asked the girl if she would like to fulfill her dream – to record real sex sounds for the song “Rocket Queen”. Adriana, of course, did not miss this opportunity and agreed to do so “for the benefit of the group and the bottles Jack Jack’s”.
A few decades later, in an interview with Mirror, Adriana Smith revealed the details of the songwriting process. “There were dimmed lights in the studio, there were pillows in the recording booth, no one saw what was going on inside. There were two guys in the second booth who recorded two hours of audio with our sex. ”
“It wasn’t very romantic, passionate, or exciting sex. It was quite artificial, but they managed to record good sounds, ”recalls Adriana.
Guns N ‘Roses, known as the craziest band in rock and roll history, has been involved in a variety of, often illegal, activities, but only a few performers have dared to use real sex sounds in their songs. Although the recording was two hours long, only the best 60 seconds were used in the final version of the song. They can be heard starting from the second minute of the song.
The young woman at the time was worried about how her voice would sound in the song, but she wasn’t worried about what her parents would think about it or how it might affect her actress career.
Later, after repeated persuasion by Axel Rose, Adriana’s name was added to the album’s release list. The girl was recorded as Adriana “Sex Machine” Smith.
Of course, her former beloved, the band’s drummer Steven, also had to learn about the adventures in the recording studio, which created tension between the members of the group. In 1991, drummer Steven Adler, who was addicted to heroin at the time, was excluded from the group.
Adriana, on the other hand, found that after a stormy recording studio experience, she continued to meet Axel Rose for several years. The group leader even offered the girl to live with her and her then-partner, with the idea of ”teaching her to have sex”.
Released in 1987, Appetite for Destruction is still one of the band’s most popular albums in the United States, with more than 30 million copies sold worldwide to date.
