If you think that young men consider sex to be the most important of all pleasant pastimes, then you could be wrong. One study shows that men tend to give up sex to play video games.
A study of 2,000 young men and women found that the proportion of people who say they have not had romantic sexual intercourse in the last year has risen from 11.7% to 15.2%.
For men between the ages of 18 and 24, that number has risen from 18.9% to 30.9%, reports The Telegraph.
For women, the most important factor explaining the decrease in their daily sexual desire was alcohol consumption. For men, too, the most important aspect of life that had an effect on the reduction of sexual desire was drinking, but this was followed by playing video games.
Ten percent was that young people were still living with their parents, according to a study by researchers at New York State University and Rutgers University.
Simon Forests, a professor at the University of Newcastle’s Institute for Health and Society, believes young people may continue to be dependent on their families, both financially and because they still live under their parents’ roofs.
“I think it clearly affects the kind of relationships young people have because the lack of independent living can be quite a significant factor,” he explains. The researcher also pointed to what he calls “pornography” in society: too much free and unrestricted access to online pornography can clearly affect young people’s intimate relationships.
According to Fox News, most of the people surveyed were “men in their twenties.”
The rise of technology has been cited as a reason why twenties are likely to have less sex.
Gin Twain, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University, explains, “There are so many more things to do tonight in the evening than there were twenty years ago.”
She also said that young men mostly divert their thoughts and attention to video streaming, social media, console games, and everything else.
